The Sonoma County Democratic Party supports the election of Minnesota Congressman Keith Ellison for Chair of the Democratic National Committee.
“We believe Keith Ellison is the best choice to lead the Democratic Party to a better future nationally,” said Bleys W. Rose, chair of the local Democratic Party. “Ellison has committed to leading the DNC in building up our base at local levels. He is committed to taking on the position full time by resigning from Congress to focus on the Democratic Party.”
Support for Ellison’s candidacy for DNC chair results from a vote taken Dec. 13 by the governing board of the Sonoma County Democratic Party.
Although selection of a national party chair may be a couple months away, the Sonoma County Democratic Party supports efforts to coalesce around a leader who is demonstrating the desire to bring new ideas to a party much in need of forging like-minded coalitions to oppose the destructive policies being advocated by the Republican Party.
We are encouraged that U.S. Rep. Ellison has already won endorsements from Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, along with outgoing Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid and New York Sen. Chuck Schumer, who will replace Reid in 2017.
